Nils Bürglen studied law at the Universities of Passau and Le Mans, France, specializing in Competition Law, Anti-Trust Law and Intellectual Property Rights, thereby acquiring additional skills in Patent Law. During his legal training, Mr. Bürglen worked for a Member of the Bundestag, Volker Kauder, in Berlin. For the period of his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court, Munich, he attended one internship each at the Law Firm Linklaters Oppenhoff & Rädler in the field of Intellectual Property Rights in Cologne, and at Robert Bosch GmbH in Corporate Intellectual Property Trademarks and Trade Names in Stuttgart. After his Second State Examination, Mr. Bürglen studied for an additional Masters in Business Law LL.M. oec. at the University of Cologne. His main legal practice area covers all aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, especially Trademarks.

Nils Bürglen was a member of both the Law Committee and the Design Committee for six years and a member of the Membership & Disciplinary Committee for three years and is now a member of the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee of the European Communities Trademark Association ECTA. He is also a member of GRUR (German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyright Law) and is frequently attending the annual INTA meeting (International Trademark Association).

Further, Mr. Bürglen was appointed by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) as auditor for reviewing decisions made by the Office relating to design invalidities in the term 2020/2021 as well as 2022/2023. In SQAP (Stakeholder Quality Assurance Panels) of EUIPO, users are directly involved in the Office's quality management system and contribute directly to improving the quality of Office decisions, in particular their clarity, consistency and predictability.
